Now we’ve had a little taste of summer, over the last couple of weeks it’s hard to still be consumed by denial about how comfortable you are in yourself. Sounds harsh but stay with me on this one.
We can all agree that there’s nothing worse than feeling uncomfortable in your clothes. It doesn’t matter what shape or size you happen to be; what matters is that you feel comfortable in yourself and in what you wear. When the temperature begins to rise, it’s not so easy to hide behind layers of clothing and it can be a bit of a wake-up call.
Here are a few of our top tips to help you feel a little more comfortable with your body this summer;
You don’t have to be accepted by others
You just have to be accepted by yourself. The next time you feel awkward in the shirt that feels a bit tight around your tummy or the skirt that feels a little too short; don’t blame other people for your insecurities. Don’t believe the reason you can’t wear that shirt is because other people will disapprove, none of them matter, only you do.
Figure out what makes you happy
If you don’t love the person you’ve been lately, you’re going to find it hard to love your body too. You need you figure out what makes you, YOU. Write a list of all everything you love about yourself, from the shape of your ankles to how you make a your favourite foods. Focus on your quirks and get specific!
When you realise how special you are, it makes it easier to feel more comfortable in yourself. Your body is a part of a fantastic package, understand your self-worth and what you give to other people.
Practice giving compliments to other people – by lifting up others, we will lift ourselves up. The next time you hear your friend complaining about their thighs or arms or what ever hang ups they have, give them a compliment. Tell them they look fantastic! By giving out compliments to others, you will find it easier to be kinder to yourself.
Focus on what you like
Do you like the shape of your ankles? Do you have great hair? Do you love the colour of your eyes? Focus on the things you do like about yourself. Flaunt them with your clothes, show them off with your make up, celebrate those parts of yourself!
Make FOMO work for you
FOMO (or fear of missing out) can really help you when it comes to loving yourself. Think about what you’re missing out on if you stay covered up on the beach instead of playing with your family. Think about that photo you didn’t take because you didn’t feel confident that day. Don’t miss out on those precious memories because you feel uncomfortable, you’ll never get that opportunity back.
The take home message from this blog, really is to learn to love yourself that little more. Despite the flaws – that we all have, you shouldn’t feel judged or uncomfortable in your own body. It doesn’t matter what shape or size you are, own your confidence from the way you walk to the clothes you wear. You are fabulous.
