It’s felt very Spring -like this week in the UK, a little bit of sunshine can do a world of good for your mood and motivation. Have you felt a bit of lift this week? The days are getting longer the flowers are starting to bloom. Has it motivated you to start looking towards the summer months?
If you’ve been struggling to get yourself back into your exercise routine after the winter lull, try these simple tips to get yourself back on track:
Rope in a friend
Whether you’re heading back to the gym, swimming pool or taking up walking in the park, make plans to meet a friend. This will help your motivation and keep you committed. You are far less likely to change your mind if you know your friend will be there to meet you.
Mix it up a little
Has boredom set in with your current fitness regimes? Is the thought of going back to doing the same old things keeping you off track? If you like to run, by all means go a couple of times a week but the easiest way to maintain a routine is to mix it up a little. Maybe take up a dance class or yoga. Keep trying different activities to stay motivation high.
There is nothing better than listening your favourite upbeat songs to pump up your motivation. Create playlists that relate to each activity you do, for example an up-tempo list for running and a calming one for yoga.
Work on your mindset
It’s far too easy to ignore the alarm and tell yourself that you need more sleep instead of getting that morning workout under way! The reality is staying in bed won’t help you in the long run! If your brain is awake enough to tell you to turn off the alarm and go back to sleep, then your body is awake enough to get up!
Just do it!
The easiest way to make sure you get that morning workout done is to just do it! As soon as your alarm goes off get yourself out of bed! Lay out your workout clothes the evening before to make sure there are no excuses!
