With Valentine’s day having just passed us by, it’s a great time to talk about how important it is to not only show the people most special to you how much you love them. But also, how important it is to show yourself some love too.
We are so good in showing compassion and care to others and can be very generous to give love, time and affection. Do we give the same things to ourselves? Most of the time the answer is “NO”. We cannot bring the out best of ourselves if we don’t love ourselves in the first place.
Here are some simple ways in which you can show yourself a little more love:
It’s such an easy and simple thing you can do, smiling is infectious. If you smile at someone else, they’ll smile at you. Uplift yourself and others just by doing something so simple.
Pay yourself compliments
Often, we focus all of our positive attention on others rather turning it on ourselves. It’s not as simple as it sounds, some of us will find it incredibly difficult, focus on what your strengths are to begin with, and it will get easier with time.
Care as much about yourself as you do others
Many of us simply don’t do this because we think we are being selfish or that our own needs are not important. It is not selfish to show concern for yourself. Showing self-compassion means taking into account your own feelings as well as for others. Treat yourself the way you would treat your children or friends.
Do something that makes you happy
If you want to be happy, do something that makes you happy. Concentrate on your hobbies like listening to music, painting or cooking whatever makes you feel happy. Never do something that hurts others as this will cause negative feelings which will undo all of your hard work!
Don’t compare yourself to others
Comparison is the thief of joy. The grass is always greener on the other side…. all of the cliched sayings are true. The more you lust after someone else’s lifestyle, job etc, the worse you’ll feel about yourself and your own situation. We all need to feel proud of ourselves, learn to value and appreciate yourself, you REALLY are worth it.
When others receive compliments, they feel appreciated and happy. When you give compliments, it makes you feel kind hearted and it can boost your energy as well as the recipient’s self-esteem. You know how nice it feels to receive a compliment, spread the joy.
Forgive your mistakes
Good people make mistakes, it doesn’t mean that you are a bad person. Focus on the future. Let go of the resentment, regret, anger, and bitterness. Holding on to negative feelings will not help how you feel about yourself.
Surround yourself with happy people
Increase your friendships with positive people who inspire you. Get rid of everything that you feel negative about. Look out for quotes that motivate you and increase the positive vibes.
Reward yourself for being so fantastic
You are already fantastic for just being you. When you’ve achieved something that makes you feel proud, reward yourself for doing such a great job!
